Adriana Bithos Goundas

A legend in family owned restaurants, Adriana Bithos Goundas, lived a beautiful life and almost made it to 100 years of age. A resident of the Mississippi Gulf Coast for over 50 years, she worked side-by-side with her husband at Papa John’s in the Biloxi Greyhound Station and later with her son at Angelo’s Deli. She was the oldest of eight children born in Chicago, IL the 24th day of February 1916 to immigrant parents. She passed away peacefully on the 16th day of February 2015 in Chicago, IL and was laid to rest in the Goundas family area of Elmwood Cemetery in Elmhurst, IL, following her funeral at St. Nectarios Greek Orthodox Church, Palatine, IL. She was a devout member of the Greek Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity and was awarded the Saint Michael the Archangel Award in 2009, by the Archbishop in Athens. Adrian was known to be a lively and vivacious personality. She was a loving, hardworking, prayerful lady and was loved for her humor and awesome laughter and who only saw the best in everyone accepting everything in her life as God’s will. Adriana considered life after Hurricane Katrina as the only camping trip of her life. Adrian was well known for her hand crotched scarves, dish cloths and personalized gifts for family and friends. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 54 years, John Angelo Goundas; her parents, Harry and Marion Sarrellis Bithos; and son-in-law, Raymond Friscia all of Chicago, IL. She is survived by her son, Angelo (Joy) Goundas; her daughter, Cynthia Goundas Friscia of Bloomingdale, IL; grandchildren, Kenny Goundas, Jennifer (Shane) Diilluo, Angela (Jerry) Levins, Zachary Harrison Goundas, Michael (Sheila) Goundas, Connie (Michael) Saunders and Jimmy (Glenda) Goundas, Anthony (Michelle) Friscia and Matthew (Nicole) Friscia; along with eleven great-grandchildren, including Ashton and Aubrey Goundas of Biloxi and Noah Levins of Mobile, AL. A 40 day Memorial Liturgy will be held on Sunday, the 22nd Day of March 2015 following the 10 AM Divine Liturgy at the Greek Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity at 255 Beauvoir Road, Biloxi, MS. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations to the Greek Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity.
