Albert "Al" John Styczenski

Albert "Al" John Styczenski, Sr., of Gulfport, entered into everlasting joy on Saturday, July 25, 2015. Angela, his bride of 47 years, was by his side. Born on April 5, 1947, in Bridgeport, Connecticut, Al was the only child of John and Julia Styczenski. He attended Bullard Havens Trade School. Upon graduating in 1966, Al enlisted in the United States Navy and trained with the Seabees in Davisville, RI. He was assigned to the 30th Naval Construction Regiment, Da Nang, in the Republic of South Vietnam, serving there for 13 months. After returning from Vietnam, Al proudly continued to serve his country as a Seabee, either deployed or on shore duty. Having served faithfully and honorably, he retired from the United States Navy on March 1, 1994. He then attended MGCCC where he received a degree of Associate of Applied Science. He then worked nights for the U.S. Postal Service for 20 years, where he was a friend to many. Whether in the military or as a civilian, Al always practiced his Catholic faith. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, and assisted with the efforts of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul while stationed in Kingsville, TX. He and Angela helped co-found, with Msgr. James McGough, the St. James Catholic Church Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration Chapel in 1994. They served as coordinators and scheduled adorers for many years. Al and Angela were incorporated into the Society of Our Lady of the Most Holy Trinity (SOLT) in 2013, having been associated with the Corpus Christi-based missionary Order since 1994. They loved traveling and ministering together. As an only child, Al's dream was to have a big family, and he did. He loved gatherings at his house with family and friends. Al was preceded in death by his parents, John and Julia Styczenski; and his grandson, Collin James Styczenski. He is survived by his wife, Angela; their five children, April, Angela Gonzalez (Saul) of Orlando, Albert, Jr., of San Antonio, Caroline Shaw (Michael) of Gulfport, and Joanna; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and special friends, Ralph and Kathy Shankweiler. Visitation for Al will be at St. James Catholic Church, 366 Cowan Road, Gulfport, on Friday, July 31, 2015 from 11 a.m. until 1p.m. followed by a Mass of the Resurrection at 1 p.m. with Reverend Mark A. Ropel presiding. The Rite of Christian Burial will follow at Biloxi V.A. National Cemetery. Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home, 15th Street in Gulfport, is in charge of the arrangements.
