Albert Wayne Hunt

Albert Wayne Hunt died on Wednesday, September 4th. He was the best man many of us knew. “Al” was born in the Missouri boot heel, as one of five Hunt brothers. (Jim, Carlton, Al, Ronnie and Noel). He graduated high school in Dexter, Missouri, then served in the United States Air Force. Al was stationed in Tripoli, Libya, where he learned that he hated air travel. In the early 1960s, he moved to St. Louis, Missouri where he rekindled a relationship with Harriette Owens. He fell in love utterly, completely and forever. He is survived by Harriette and they would have been married 50 years in March. Al raised two sons, Steve and Mark, and he taught them the difference between right and wrong. They struggled with the lesson, but it eventually stuck. For 25 years, he was a small-town grocer in Moberly, MO. He was a Trustee at the Carpenter Street Baptist Church. He loved Johnny Cash and mistakenly believed that he sounded like him when doing his rendition of “Daddy Sang Bass” or “When the Roll is Called Up Yonder.” In 1996, Al moved to Diamondhead, Mississippi. He was an avid golfer and played almost every single day. He loved the game and the friends he made playing it. He was extremely proud of his two hole-in-ones. He was a member of the Diamondhead Baptist Church. Al loved and loathed the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team. He would turn the game off and on at least a dozen times in nine innings. His Cardinals won eight world championships in his lifetime. Al was a proud grandfather to Hayden, Parker, Grayson, Grace, Delaney and Joe. He was quick with a smile and a hug. His daughters-in-law Ashley Hunt and Jean Hunt loved him for it. He would be upset if he knew we were making such a big deal over his passing. From beginning to end, Al Hunt lived a life of integrity, dignity and compassion. He loved completely. And he was loved completely. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Hancock County Food Pantry 9972 Hwy 603, Bay St. Louis, MS 39520 or the American Heart Association, 2159 E.
