Althea Ellenora Lamas Taconi, a life-long resident of Biloxi, passed away peacefully on April 10, 2015. She was born on August 10, 1929, and was a devoted wife to August J. Taconi, Sr. for 58 years. Mrs. Taconi was a member of Nativity B.V.M. Cathedral, where she sang in the choir.
She was also a loving mother and grandmother. She was well known in the community as a talented seamstress, designing and sewing numerous garments for the Diocese of Biloxi, the Gulf Coast Carnival Association, the Gulf Coast Opera Theatre, and many friends and family.
Mrs. Taconi was preceded in death by her mother and father, Joseph and Gladys Lamas; sister, Melanie Lamas; brother, Jack Lamas; husband, August Taconi, Sr.; and granddaughter, Sara Alexander.
Surviving family members include her sister, Marie Saucier; brother, Joseph Lamas; children, August Taconi, Jr. (Carla Beaugez), Anthony Taconi (Marianne Towell), Mary Taconi Alexander (Joe Alexander), Eugene Taconi, and Barbara Taconi; grandchildren, Aris, Katherine, and Carolyn Taconi, Julie, Micah, and Kristen Alexander, and Mandy Pitalo; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous other family and friends whom she loved dearly.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Nativity B.V.M. Cathedral or the St. Vincent de Paul Society in the parish of the donor’s choice.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at Nativity B.V.M. Cathedral on Monday, April 13, 2015, at 11 a.m., and friends may call one hour before. The Howard Avenue Chapel of Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
