Amos Vargas died Friday, June 22, 2012 in Ocean Springs at the age of 76 after a long battle with cancer.
Mr. Vargas was a longtime resident of the coast residing in Ocean Springs. He served 4 years with the National Guard and 20 years in the U.S. Air Force. Some of his overseas tours included Japan, Saudi Arabia and the United Kingdom. Mr. Vargas also worked for Hotard Coaches. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, a compassionate brother and a caring son. He will be remembered for his tender, loving heart. He is deeply loved and will be greatly missed.
We would also like to extend our gratitude to the compassion and care over the past few years and final months to Keesler Air Force Base Oncology Dept., Oschner Medical Clinic, MD Anderson Cancer Center and the loving staff with Odyssey Hospice.
He is preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Helen Vargas; his parents, Pedro and Maria Vargas; and his brother, Edward Vargas.
Survivors include his wife, Glenda Vargas; his daughters, Valerie Alvarado of Belton, TX and Monica Schara of Anchorage, AK; his sons, Mark Vargas of Moss Point, Matthew Vargas of Ocean Springs and Marty Vargas of Biloxi; his step-children, Matt Fallin and Jessica Fallin both of Ocean Springs; six sisters; two brothers; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations be made to one’s favorite charity or to the American Cancer Society, 417 Security Square, Gulfport, MS 39507.
Visitation will be on Sunday, June 24, 2012 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday, June 25, 2012 at 1:00 pm at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Biloxi National Cemetery.
