Ann Baltar Schmidt

Mrs. Ann Baltar Schmidt, 75, of Biloxi, died Friday, August 10, 2012, at her home. Mrs. Schmidt was born in Biloxi on April 22, 1937. She graduated from Biloxi High School and St. Mary’s Dominican College in New Orleans. After several years working in the insurance industry in New Orleans, and two years in Huntsville, Alabama, she returned home to raise her family. Mrs. Schmidt was an active member of the Nativity BVM Cathedral Parish. She served on the Parish Council, as President of the Altar Society, and a member of the Finance Committee. She was a longtime volunteer at Nativity BVM Elementary School and for various community projects and events. A lover of the water, she was a long-time member of the Biloxi Yacht Club, leading the club to numerous ladies Gulf Yachting Association Knost Regatta Championships. She was a former member of Les Masquees Carnival Association. Mrs. Schmidt was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jacinto Baltar of Biloxi. She was survived by her husband of fifty years, Dr. Harry Schmidt, Jr.; two daughters, Julie Schmidt of Biloxi, and Patricia Schmidt of Houston, Texas; her son, Harry Schmidt, III, (Jennifer) of Ocean Springs; two grandchildren, Ainsley and Hudson Schmidt; and her sister, Margaret Baltar of Biloxi. Visitation will take place at Nativity BVM Cathedral in Biloxi on Tuesday, August 14, 2012, beginning at 9am. A funeral mass will follow at 11am, and a graveside service will take place at Biloxi City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Nativity BVM Cathedral or to the St. Vincent de Paul Pharmacy in Biloxi. The Howard Avenue Chapel of Bradford O'Keefe Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
