Anthony Christopher "Chris" Taranto,

Anthony Christopher “Chris” Taranto, Sr., 71, passed away in his sleep Saturday, June 21, 2014. Chris was born in Biloxi and remained a lifelong resident of the Gulf Coast. He was a 1961 graduate of Notre Dame High School. While a stand out pitcher at Notre Dame, Chris achieved national recognition when he pitched 9 no hit games (6 consecutive) in his senior season, which still remains a national record. In 2012, he was inducted into the Biloxi Sports Hall of Fame. After high school, Chris spent two years in minor league baseball. After that, he spent most of his life in construction. He thoroughly enjoyed life and loved to fish, play golf and shoot pool. Chris was preceded in death by his mother, Marie Gospodinovich; father, John Thomas Taranto, Sr.; brother, John Thomas Taranto, Jr.; and sons, John Patrick Taranto and Arthur Paul Taranto. He is survived by his children, Anthony C “Tony” Taranto, Jr., Timothy E “Tim” Taranto, Dana Taranto, and Madeline J. “Maddy” Taranto; three granddaughters and one grandson; and brother, Stephen A. Taranto and James J. Taranto. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to be made to the Chris Taranto Bereavement Fund at Navy Federal Credit Union, account #3050013758, Routing# 256074974. A memorial service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 3, 2014 at the Howard Avenue Chapel of Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home, where friends may visit 1 hour prior.
