Armella "Melsie" Salm Mangin

Armella “Melsie” (Salm) Mangin, 87, of Ocean Springs passed away Monday, February 3, 2014 in Ocean Springs. Armella was born in Chilton, WI on May 21, 1926. She was the daughter of a dairy farmer, helping her parents, Andy and Mae in the beautiful picturesque farm country of Wisconsin. As a young lady she contributed to the war effort during WWII constructing mechanical parts for the war. She became a registered nurse working in Milwaukee, WI, the Veteran’s Hospital in Pueblo, CO and the Navy Hospital in New Port, RI. She married John F. “Jack” Mangin in 1953. She was deeply devoted to her family and her church, always working tirelessly behind the scenes. She spent her life caring for others, she loved to laugh and sing, she was the “wind beneath our wings”. She is preceded in death by her parents, Andrew Salm and Mae Utchig Salm; and her sisters, Marie (Salm) Hammond and Esther (Salm) McHugh. Her survivors include her husband of 60 years, John F. “Jack” Mangin of Ocean Springs; her daughters, Beverly (Mangin) Ellzey and her husband, Charles of Daphne, AL and Kathy Mangin of Ocean Springs; her three grandchildren, Andrew Ellzey of Brooklyn, NY, Rachael Ellzey of Daphne, AL and John Ellzey and his wife Kris of Binghampton, NY; her niece, Mary Jane McHugh of Brookfield, Wisconsin; and her nephews, Don McHugh and his wife Lou Ann of Stoughton, WI and Howie Prichard of Bellevue,Ohio. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations to be made to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul of Biloxi, P.O. Box 4098, Biloxi, MS 39531. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church on Saturday, February 8, 2014 at 12:00 p.m. Friends may visit from 11:00 a.m. until mass time. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery. The Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
