On September 12, 2013, Arthur Wesley Fletcher, Sr. peacefully passed away surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on June 28, 1947, to James and Zelda Fletcher in Polkville, Mississippi. He served in the Army and was a Purple Heart Veteran of the Vietnam War. During his service, he was awarded two Bronze Stars. He spent much of his life racing stock cars, fishing, attending his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events and entertaining his family and friends with his stories and sense of humor.
Arthur was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jane Eaton Fletcher; his parents, James Franklin and Zelda Adcock Fletcher; and his sister, Mildred Faye Spicer.
Arthur married the love of his life, Mary Jane Eaton Fletcher on December 11, 1967. Their marriage was blessed with three children: Betty Adams, Andrea (Roby) Clark and Wesley Fletcher. He was also blessed with a loving nephew whom he loved as his own son, John W. Fletcher, Jr. Mr. Fletcher was most happy in the company of his 12 grandchildren – Jordan Adams, Drew Bosarge, Gidgett Fletcher, Jensen Bosarge, Justin Adams, Courtney Desrosier, Jared Adams, Dylan Clark, Brett Fletcher, Matthew Fletcher, Evan Fletcher, and Ethan Fletcher; and 1 great-grandchild – Conner Atwell.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 21, 2013 at the Howard Avenue Chapel of Bradford-O’Keefe in Biloxi. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 p.m. His final resting place will be at D’Iberville Memorial Park on Gorenflo Road.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Biloxi Veterans Administration (Niagara Wing) Hospice. The family would also like to extend a special “Thank you” to Harry “Skip” Girten, for being dad’s “buddy” during his final days.
