Mrs. Bertie Loyal Currington Patano, 88, of Biloxi, MS passed away Sunday, May 27, 2012, in Biloxi.
Mrs. Patano was born April 29, 1924 in the town of Payne Bend, Walker County, Alabama. She was preceded in her passing by her loving husband of 67 years, Peter Paul Patano, who passed away November 23, 2009; her parents, Gridley Currington and Rose Gray Currington; and a brother, Alvin (Ann) Currington.
Mrs. Patano was a dedicated military spouse, traveling and moving with her husband for 22 years before they settled permanently on the Mississippi Gulf Coast in 1970. She was a dedicated homemaker, wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed crafts, genealogy, painting, quilting, writing, and reading fiction and non-fiction with a passion.
She leaves behind a large family including four sons and two daughters; Michael Patano, Linda Roberts, Nick (Mary) Patano, Susan (Nick) Randazzo, Peter Patano II, and Jim (Pam) Patano; eleven grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; brothers, Joe (Debbie) Currington, and Daniel Currington; sisters, Shirley (Bob) Ross, and Marilyn (Bobby) Steadman; and a sister-in-law, Ann (Alvin) Currington.
The family would like to thank Father Paddy Mockler and the Eucharistic Ministers of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church who provided encouragement and spiritual guidance to our mother. The family also thanks Dr. Edwin Davidson of Gulfport, Dr. Rachael Tadlock, Dr. Y. C. Joe Chen and N. P. Deiedra Hertz of Biloxi, the administrative, nursing and support staff of the Biloxi Community Living Center, and Camellia Home Health and Hospice of Biloxi, for the care and compassion shown to our mother.
In lieu of flowers the family prefers donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital Memorial Gifts, P. O. Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38148-0142.
Funeral services will be 12:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 30, 2012, at Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home, 2511 Pass Road, in Biloxi where friends may visit from 10:00 a.m. until service time. Interment will follow in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.
