Betty Bankston Carlin, 90, of Long Beach, died Friday, February 1, 2013 in New Orleans.
Mrs. Carlin was born August 30, 1922 in Silver City, MS. She was the daughter of John Malcolm and Jennie Lea Miller Bankston. She spent her early years in Anguilla, MS and later Raymond, MS where her family moved in 1935. She attended Hinds Junior College in Raymond, MS and The University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, AL. During World War II, she enlisted in the U.S. Navy as a member of the WAVES (Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service) serving her community from 1942 to 1945. During this time she worked in Naval Intelligence in Washington, D.C.
Mrs. Carlin married William Bernard Carlin, of Bond, MS, on May 2, 1948. Mrs. Carlin has been a resident of Long Beach since 1965. She worked for 12 years in the Public Information Office at Keesler Air Force Base. After her retirement, she became very active in the Pass Christian Historical Society. She began the Historical Society’s Oral History Program, interviewing many pioneer residents of Pass Christian. She was a member of Pineville Presbyterian Church, the Pass Christian Yacht Club and the Friends of the Pass Christian Library.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. Her survivors include her daughter, Kathleen Carlin Schmehl of New Orleans, LA; son, William B. Carlin II of Duncan OK; brother, L.M. Bankston of Laurel, MS; and two granddaughters.

Hiern Avenue, Pass Christian, MS 39571.
A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, February 7, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at Pineville Presbyterian Church in Pass Christian, MS, where friends may visit one hour prior to service.
