Billy Quave

Billy Ray Quave, age 79, a life-long resident of the Mississippi Gulf Coast, went home to be with his Lord Saturday, September 14, 2013. Billy Ray was born on October 22, 1933 in Biloxi and attended Biloxi schools until his family moved to Gautier when he was 13. After graduating from Pascagoula High School, he attended Mississippi Junior College at Perkinston then earned a bachelor degree in Journalism from University of Southern Mississippi and a Master’s degree in Political Science. After serving in the Army, Billy Ray worked at The Daily Herald newspaper until he retired as Assistant City Editor in 1983. He was a member of many service and social clubs including the Biloxi JCs, Biloxi Kiwanis, Biloxi Businessmen’s Club, Biloxi Elks #606, Knights of Columbus #1244, charter member of the Crew of Neptune, life-member of the Order of Mithras Carnival Assn., and had been a member of the Gulf Coast Carnival Assn. He was a long-time member of Nativity BVM Cathedral and later Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church. For many years he had also been active in the Cursillo Movement of South Mississippi. Billy Ray was an avid fisherman and enjoyed spending time with his family and grandsons and attending his Monday night Cursillo prayer group. He is preceded in his death by his parents, Tom Quave and Myrtle Quave-Davis, and sister, Ruby Ainsworth. Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Dorothy Barq Quave; son, Thomas E. Quave; daughter-in-law, Margot Quave; grandsons, Glenn Quave and William Quave; sister-in-laws, Ella Mae Barq and Beryl (John) Barq Lewis; niece, Cathy Powell; and nephew, Tom Ainsworth. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 19, 2013 at Our Lady of Fatima Church where friends may visit 2 hours prior. Interment will follow in Southern Memorial Park. The Howard Avenue Chapel of Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
