Buford Vieregge, age 89, of New Orleans, LA, passed away Tuesday, June 3, 2014.
Buford was a Marine and retired from the United States Army, where he received many commendations including two Purple Hearts. He also received many other commendations, which include the following medals - Good Conduct, National Defense Service, Army Occupation, Germany Expert (Carbine and Riffle), Pistol 45 Caliber Sharp Shooter, and an Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal of Freedom. Buford worked for Pinkerton Investigative Services.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest G. Vieregge and Vera A. Bodiford Vieregge; siblings, Billie Jean Lamb, William Vieregge, Benard Carl Vieregge and Ernestine Vieregge James; son, Christopher M. Vieregge; and grandson, Buford D. Vieregge, III.
Buford is survived by his children, Buford D. Vieregge, Jr., Richard D. Vieregge, William L. Vieregge,
Deborah L. Vieregge Liuzza, Bryan L. Vieregge, Karen Sue Vieregge Taylor, David G. Vieregge, Robert M. Vieregge, Glenn A. Vieregge, Sharon E. Vieregge-Foster; sisters, Almadine Condor and Doris Haney; 23 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held at the Howard Avenue Chapel of Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 11, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. Friends may visit an hour and a half prior to service. Interment will follow at Biloxi National Cemetery.
