Ms. Carol Jean Cheek, age 67, of Ocean Springs, MS, died Wednesday, December 19, 2012, in Ocean Springs. Ms. Cheek was born in Tampa, FL and was a resident of Ocean Springs since 1981. She was the former owner of the Jackson County News and Views, serving as editor and a reporter and was the former owner of Poppys Diner in Ocean Springs. She was the former President of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and a member of the Elks Ladies Auxiliary in Ocean Springs. Ms. Cheek resided in several different countries and states prior to settling in Ocean Springs. She was a member of Christus Victor Lutheran Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jack Green and Bettie Jean Shirley, granddaughter, Amelia and former spouse, Roy Eugene Yates, Survivors include five daughters, Catherine M. (Daniel) Born, Donnalee J. (Michael) Horner, Shannon J. (Eddie) Allen, Tommi (Todd) Echelberry and Elizabeth A. Greholver, one son, Rick Allen, two sisters, Joan Taylor and Claudia (Russell) Thomas, twenty three grandchildren, Daniel, Rose, Graham, Sabra Jean, Miles, Maxwell, Monroe, Hannah, Zachary, Elliot, Sheridan, Alex, Amber, Hunter Adam, Mary, Josie, Beau, Shianne, Matthew, Ricky, Unique, Nicholas and Patience and three great-grandchildren, Colton, Iris and Fisher. A Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date. The Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford O'Keefe Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
