Carrie Thorne Lang Walker, 84, of Gulfport died Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at her home in Gulfport. She was born in Gulfport where she was a resident for most of her life, except when living in Jackson when her late husband, Judge Harry G. Walker, Sr. served on the Mississippi Supreme Court, retiring as Chief Justice.
She was a founding member of Trinity United Methodist Church where she was very active and was a member of the Women’s Society of Trinity. She was a former Queen of Merry Maskers, former Jaycette of the Year, a member of Green Thumb Garden Club, former member of Gulfport Yacht Club, former Board Member of Goodwill Industries of Mississippi, member of Official Mississippi Women’s Club, former member of Jackson Christian Women’s Club, and Volunteer of the Year at Mississippi Methodist Rehabilitation Center.
Mrs. Walker was preceded in death by her husband, Judge Harry G. Walker, Sr.; a son, Fred Wallace Walker; parents, Arthur Wallace Lang, Sr. and Carrie Thorne Cowan Lang; two sisters, Nell Lang Davis and Lillian Lang Garner; a brother, Arthur W. “Buzzy” Lang, Jr.
She is survived by a son, Harry Grey Walker, Jr. and his wife, Mara D. Walker; three grandchildren, Kaylee LaDell Walker, Kimberly Elise Walker, and Nicholaus A. Graves (Laura); and a great-granddaughter, Sophia Graves.
The family wants to give a “Special Thanks” to Odyssey Hospice and Mrs. Walker’s caregivers.
Visitation will be held Sunday, May 5, 2013 from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. at Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home, 15th Street, Gulfport. The funeral service is Monday, May 6, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. at Trinity United Methodist Church in Gulfport where friends may visit beginning at 10:00 A.M. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Gulfport.
