Catherine Louise Beam Masden, longtime Birmingham resident living in Gulfport for several years, was born on September 10, 1924 in Bardstown, KY, and passed away on Sunday, August 24, 2014 in Gulfport. She is survived by her daughters Andi Rushton Oustalet (Butch) of Gulfport and Janelle Masden of New Orleans and her son William Henry Masden III of San Antonio, TX. She is also survived by her sister, Julia Beam Schuler (Paul) of Ft. Wayne, IN, grandchildren Lindsey Steiner Seal (Adam) and Shelley Steiner Hasty (Joseph) of Birmingham and Kimberley, Kate and Cameron Rushton of Gulfport, and by great grandson Barrett William Seal and son-in-law Bill Steiner of Birmingham, and by a niece and nephews. Preceding her in death were her husband William Henry Masden Jr and her daughter Linda Masden Steiner. She graduated from Spaulding College in Louisville, KY, with a degree in Chemistry and Mathematics. After raising her children, she returned to work as a Claims Administrator for Social Security. She was a survivor of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. Catherine lived her faith each day. She was an active parishioner and volunteer member of the Altar Society of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Homewood, AL, for many years and of St. James Catholic Church in Gulfport. Quietly, she gave her time, assistance and compassion to those in need. She was much loved and admired by her family and friends, and will be remembered for the cheery message with which she ended her phone calls: "Have a great day everyday!" The family thanks Beth Clark Lott, Addie Smith, Cynthia Champion, Vicky Preedom O'Bryant and all of the dedicated people at Saad Home Health for years of loving care.
