Jocie Catherine Phifer, age 89, passed away Friday, January 19th, 2018
She was born October 16, 1928 in Little Rock, MS. She was a member of Grace Memorial Baptist Church in Gulfport and a member of their Inspirations Senior Citizen Group. She retired from Sears Roebuck in 1988.
Mrs. Phifer is preceded in death by her husband, Houston Ellis Phifer, Sr.; her daughter, Cynthia Phifer; her mother and father, Ludie Glenn Chandler and Walter Stephen Chandler; her brothers, W.S., Cobern, Artis (Boots), and Victor Chandler; and her sisters, Newell Viator and Ludie Elma (Sammie) Kahler.
Survivors include her daughters, Patti (Michael) Papania and Jeanine Howell; her son, H. Ellis (Janet) Phifer, Jr.; her sisters, Estelle Knight, Lib Martin, and Jessie Ritchie; her grandchildren, Jennifer Papania (Jonathan) King, Zachary (Brandy) Howell, Cody Howell, Lauren Phifer, and Aaron (Amelia) Phifer; and her great-grandchildren, John Michael King, Katelan King, and Adrianna Phifer.
The family would like to sincerely thank the staff of Dixie White House Nursing Home who lovingly cared for our mother for several years.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 23rd, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home, O'Neal Road, Gulfport, where friends may visit one hour before the service. Interment will be in Evergreen Gardens in Gulfport.
