Cdr. Charles “Chuck” Noble Hooper, US Navy Retired, 82, of Vancleave, MS, passed away Thursday February 4, 2016 at the Hospice Ministries Center, Ridgeland, MS. Chuck was the son of the late Sidney Hooper and Catherine Watson, born in Philadelphia, PA. He was a former resident of Lakehurst, NJ and Groton, CT. He was preceded in death by his wife of ten years, Margaret Ellen Hooper. Charles is survived by his daughters: Catherine (Michael) Rolfe of Pawcatuck ,CT; Geraldine/Tecie (Timothy) Dander of Evansville, IN; Mary (Sandip) Sawardecker, of Jackson, MS; Charlene (Mark) Carpenter, of Westerly R.I. and Genevieve (Leo) Hooper-Perry of Groton, CT; son, Charles N. A private Family Ceremony was held at the Vancleave Chapel of Bradford O’Keefe Funeral Home with a Full Military Honors ceremony at Biloxi National Cemetery, Biloxi, MS on Monday February 8, 2016. In 1953, Chuck enlisted in the United States Navy and spent most of his Navy career on submarines, sub-tenders and submarine maintenance/support. He completed his career as Commander stationed at the Naval Base Kitsap, Washington. During his career, he was awarded Good Conduct medals, a Meritorious Service medal and an Expeditionary medal. He was proud of his contributions to the USN as evidenced by the medals, his performance evaluations and endorsements for promotions. We are so proud of you Dad! After his military career, Chuck worked for Hudson Shipbuilders, Pascagoula, MS as Manager Test and Trials Quality Assurance and Safety; Louisiana Power and Light as Lead Auditor and for John J. McMullen Associates, Pascagoula, MS as an Engineer. Chuck enjoyed playing baseball, softball, racquetball, and handball. At home he took pleasure in his gardening, canning, grilling and smoking sausages. Another hobby Dad enjoyed was tinkering in his garages on small engines while listening to his music. Dad was a kind-hearted man who would do anything for anyone, even taking in stray dogs and cats that would wander into his yard and make them his pets. Dad your love, your understanding, wisdom and amazing sense of humor will live on inside us forever. You have given us gifts more precious than anything in this world.
