Charles “Roy” Kennedy, Sr., a native of Biloxi and a resident of D’Iberville since Hurricane Katrina, passed away peacefully on September 19, 2016 at the age of 94.
Roy served as a Sergeant First Class in the Army National Guard as a member of the First Cavalry Division. He served in WWII and in the Korean War. He was awarded the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, Philippine Liberation Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal and the WWII Victory Medal.
Roy is preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Iola Kennedy; his parents, Louis and Loretta Harris Kennedy; and his siblings, Amy Barich, Lucille Gilbert, Uriel Kennedy, Edith Dellenger and Doyle Kennedy; his son-in-law, Charles L. Williams; and his great-great grandson, Jayden Breeland.
Roy is survived by his children, Judy K. Williams and Charles Roy Kennedy, Jr.; his grandchildren, Tammy Breeland, Cindy (Damon) Dusang, Charles R. (Michelle) Kennedy, III, Loretta (Gregory) Eleuterius, Timothy (Angela) Kennedy, Candice Kennedy and Charles Williams, II; 20 great-grandchildren; 9 great-great-grandchildren; and his sister-in-law, Gladys Kennedy.
The family wishes to extend special gratitude to the Biloxi V.A. medical staff and a special thanks to the staff of the V.A. Hospice Unit for their compassionate care of Roy.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations be made to the Biloxi V.A. Hospice Unit, 400 Veterans Ave., Biloxi, MS 39531 or to the Our Lady of Fatima St. Vincent de Paul Society, 2090 Pass Road Biloxi, MS 39531.
Visitation will be held at the Howard Avenue Chapel of Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home on Thursday, September 22, 2016 from 8:30 am until 9:30 am with a 10:00 am Graveside Service at Biloxi National Cemetery.
