Charlotte Louella Stiles died on Tuesday, November 13, 2012 in Ocean Springs, MS with her family by her side. She was born in Escatawpa, MS on April 6, 1926 to Norman and Mary Allen. One of eleven children, Charlotte always loved being surrounded by family and caring for others. She had three children of her own and took on the role of mother to seven stepchildren. She also worked at a battered women’s shelter, becoming a soft place of comfort for anyone who needed her. Charlotte was a generous, jovial woman who enjoyed spending time with her children and especially, her grandchildren. As an avid fisherman, she was never far from the water, even in the end, if only in thoughts and uttered remembrances. She loved to cook, bowl and play bingo. As an animal lover, she never turned a stray away and always fed “her birds”.
She is survived by her sons, William (Bea) Vermeulen and Richard (Marcia) Vermeulen; her daughter, Barbara (Robert) Smith; her grandchildren, Michael, Dennis, Allen, Rachel, Kathlyn, Jimmy and Donna; ten great-grandchildren; her brothers, Norman and Eugene Allen and her stepchildren, Raymond, Rusty, Rene, Richard, Robert, Ramona and Rita Stiles.
Special thanks to Ocean Springs Nursing Center and Odyssey Hospice for the wonderful care and support.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home, Ocean Springs Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
