Chaz Mikell

Chaz Mikell, 64, of Carrabelle, FL died Friday, March 3, 2017 in Pascagoula, MS. Chaz Mikell was loved by many. He was a colorful person and loved life. He was extremely talented in many areas. Chaz was a boat captain, park ranger, law enforcement officer, Native-American craftsman, accomplished writer, teacher, nature guide and he had his own TV show called “Cooking Wild” that featured how to live off the land and survive in all situations. His biggest gift was as a world-class musician: singer, songwriter and guitarist. His work has been awarded an Oscar and two Grammy nominations. He was voted the number one percussionist at Disney World and Florida’s “Entertainer of the Year”. His most treasured roll was having music workshops for disabled children and the elderly. He considered his role as father and grandfather to be his most cherished accomplishment in life. Chaz’s survivors include his daughter, Carrie Lynn Mikell; his granddaughter, Leesie; his brother, John “Lee” Mikell; his uncles, Wilson O. “Ott” Mikell and Joseph T. Smith; and his nephews, John and Joe; and his devoted friend, Kathy Mangin. Private services were held. The Howard Avenue Chapel of Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements. In lieu of flowers the family prefers donations be made to the Gulf Coast Writers Association, P.O. Box 4808, Biloxi, MS 39535.
