Mrs. Claudia Ann Markham, age 78, of Ocean Springs, MS passed away at her home in the early morning hours on April 16, 2013.
Claudia was born in Ft. Leavenworth, KS on October 2, 1934 and graduated from Washington and Lee High School in Arlington. She went on to earn an associate degree in fine art at another school in Arlington, VA. While living in Williamsburg, VA Claudia operated a small interior design business for a few years and later earned her real estate license. She enjoyed cooking, reading, gardening, bird watching and especially her Yorkshire Terriers.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Colonel John F. McCartney, USAF and Dixie May Olvis McCartney.
Survivors include her loving husband of 60 years, LCDR Lewis M. Markham (USN Retired). They were married in the Fort Myers Chapel, Fort Myers, VA on June 8, 1953. She is also lovingly remembered by her daughter, Amory Markham Huffman, granddaughters, Thea and Geneva Huffman of Cincinnati, OH, her son, Christopher Markham of Washington Crossing, PA, and her brother, John S. McCartney of Richmond, VA.
A short service of remembrance will be held on Sunday, April 21, 2013, at 7:30 am, at St. John's Episcopal Church in Ocean Springs.
Claudia is to be buried at Arlington National Cemetery, next to her infant son, L.M. Markham IV, whenever Arlington's schedule is firmed up.
In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials be made to Humane Society of South Mississippi, 2615 25th Avenue, Gulfport, MS 39501.
The Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford O'Keefe Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
