CMSGT David Allan Britt, USAF Retired

David Allan Britt, 84, of Biloxi, MS went home to be with his Heavenly Father on Saturday, March 4, 2017, after a lengthy battle with pneumonia at Garden Park Medical Center in Gulfport, MS. David was a decorated U. S. Air Force Veteran of 30 years and retired as Chief Master Sergeant. In addition to his military career he graduated with a Master of Science from the University of Mississippi. He pursued a variety of interests, including writing poetry. At one time he was the Editor of the Mississippi Poetry Society. He owned and learned how to pilot his own airplane. He enjoyed working in his butterfly garden, researching his family genealogy, and painting and created many depictions of his childhood memories. David devoted his entire life to serving God and taking care of his family. There was no job he wasn’t willing to tackle. He home-schooled two of his grandchildren and spent years collecting aluminum cans and recycling to help raise money to support medical bills when his son-in-law had a lifesaving transplant. David was a great storyteller and a humble man full of humor, wisdom and integrity. He served God, his family and country in every way he could. During his life time he served as a Chaplain of the Mississippi State Guard. He worked in Door To Door Ministry. He served as a Sunday School Teacher, Deacon, Church bus driver, and he kept the buses repaired to transport the little children back and forth to church. He was the man who got up at 5:00 in the morning to get the boiler roaring so that the sanctuary would be warm for the church service. He was a member of Cedar Lake Christian Assembly for over 40 years and a faithful servant his entire life. He will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him. David was preceded in death by his parents, Othur Britt and Mary Allen, and his brother, Gary Britt. He is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 58 years, Sue Elrod Britt; daughters Annette Chandler and her husband, Kevin Chandler, of Biloxi, and Lynn Sala also of Biloxi; sisters, Diana Knapp of Creedmoor, NC, Kathleen Jowers of New Smyrna Beach, FL, and Sylvia Cope of Eglin, SC; eight grandchildren, Stephanie Hogue and her husband, Alan Hogue, Allan Chandler, Kristine Sala, Jared Chandler and his wife Mallory Chandler, Nathan Chandler and Kaitlin Chandler; and eight great-grandchildren, Haley Moore, Alan Hogue, Bryson Mahone, Noah Hill, Kyle Chandler, Kajun Hogue, Riley Holmes and Benny Hogue.
