Dane H. Turner, age 80, of Ocean Springs, died Saturday morning, September 20, 2014 at Ocean Springs Hospital, Ocean Springs.
Mr. Turner was born in Detroit, Michigan on December 6, 1933 and shortly after, the family moved to Denmark where they remained until the hostilities of World War 2 prompted them to return to Michigan in 1938 when Dane was 5 years old where he grew up.
He served in the US Navy and flew non-rigid airships out of Lakehurst, NJ that were used in the airborne early warning system missions during the early 1950’s to fill gaps in the North American early warning network. After his discharge from the Navy, Dane graduated from LSU with a Bachelor of Science degree and went on to earn his MBA from Rollins College in May 1964.
His survivors include his wife of 20 years, Sheila Grieco-Turner; one son, Keith Turner (Ashley); two daughters, Stacy Ryan (Mike) and Tara Lanzini (Mitch); two step-daughters, Laura Lea Grieco and Karen French; and grandchildren, Lee, Kurt, Chad, Gabrielle, Hannah, Kerrigan, and Ethan.
A Memorial Service will be held at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Ocean Springs on Wednesday, September 24, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. A reception will follow in the parish hall. The Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home is in charge arrangements.
