David "Mike" Michael Cartrett

David “Mike” Michael Cartrett, 58, of Biloxi, passed away Friday, June 5, 2015. Mike grew up in Biloxi and attended St. Martin School. As “Mr. St. Martin” and a star player, he held multiple football records for many years. After high school, Mike served his country as a member of the U.S. Air Force. He had an extensive work history throughout his life beginning in childhood on his father’s shrimp boat and ending in retirement from Tidewater Marine as Chief Engineer. Mike had a vast array of interests. His passion for fishing and the Gulf began as a child and continued throughout his life. His love of classic American muscle cars led to many good times with his car show buddies and numerous awards for his Chevy babies, a 2010 Camaro and a 1968 Camaro. Mike also loved music and Les Paul guitars, which prompted him to be a self-taught guitar player. His knowledge and love of all sports and racing was unmatched. He was a proud member of Cruisin the Coast since 2010 and the Elks Lodge #606. Mike never met a stranger and had the unique ability to leave a special imprint on all of those who had the pleasure of knowing him. As an advocate of organ donation, he was an outstanding exemplar by being an organ donor himself. He found comfort in God and embraced his Catholic faith. He was preceded in death at a very young age by his biological father, Robert “Bobby” Cartrett; his father, Edval Hughes; and his aunt, Frances Greenwell. Mike is survived by his wife of 24 years, Mary Cartrett; his two children, Starr and Robert “Bobby” Cartrett; his mother, Elizabeth “Jane” Hughes; his siblings, Raye Foreman (Glenn), Edval “Bubba” Hughes (Kellie), and Jayne Fournier (Doty); many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends; and his furry kids, Max, Millie, and Mugsley. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Vincent de Paul of Sacred Heart, 10446 Lemoyne Blvd., D’Iberville, MS 39540 or the Humane Society of South Mississippi, 2615 25th Ave., Gulfport, MS 39501, in honor of his love for animals and helping others. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church on Wednesday, June 10, 2015 at 11:15 am. Friends may visit from 10:00 am until mass time. Interment will follow at Biloxi National Cemetery. The Howard Avenue Chapel of Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
