David Franklin Milsted, age 87, of Gulfport died Friday, May 10, 2013, at home, surrounded by his family, after a lengthy illness. He was born, May 2, 1926, in Scooba, MS. He served in the U.S. Army in WWII, in the European Theater and was awarded the Bronze Star. He was a member of the American Legion, DAV, VFW and a Shriner. He worked for the MS Power Co. for over 36 years. Following his retirement, he delivered Meals on Wheels for several years and following Katrina he chaired and served on the Feed My Sheep Committee for St. Peter’s By the Sea Episcopal Church. He was well known around Woodglen as “the man who walks the little dog”.
David was a faithful and dedicated member of St. Peter’s By the Sea Episcopal Church for over 40 years, where he served as Junior and Senior Warden and chaired many committees.
He is survived by his bride of 65 years, Mary Frances Rawlings Milsted; daughters, Gay Baird (Mike) of Huntsville, Al; Ann Milsted of Meridian, MS and a beloved granddaughter Gina Madison Groce (Mike) of Huntsville, Al. He was preceded in death by his parents, Luther and Eula Milsted, 2 brothers, Carl and Wayne and a sister Geraldine Clay.
The family would like to thank Canon Hospice, especially Kathy and Sharon for their loving care and most especially the members of his St. Peter’s By the Sea Family.
The Funeral Service will be Wednesday, May 15, 2013, 12 Noon at St. Peter’s By the Sea Episcopal Church, where friends may visit one hour before the service. A reception will follow in the Parish Hall. Interment will be at 2:30 P.M. at the Biloxi National Cemetery with military honors by the U.S. Army.
