Deacon Benjamin Franklin Wimberly, Jr., 68, of Biloxi, MS passed away Saturday, October 14, 2017 in Ocean Springs. Deacon Wimberly was born to Benjamin Franklin Wimberly, Sr. and Catherine Wimberly on August 30, 1949 in Biloxi, MS. He received a Bachelor’s Degree at University of Southern Mississippi and was a teacher for St. Martin Junior High and High Schools for over 30 years. Deacon Wimberly was an ordained member of the Diaconate class of 2002 and a deacon for the Catholic Diocese of Biloxi. He was also an active member of the Gulf Coast Theatre Community. He was preceded in death by his father, Benjamin Wimberly, Sr. Deacon Wimberly’s survivors include his mother, Catherine Wimberly; his wife, Mary Wimberly; his children, Thomas Wimberly of Biloxi, MS, Christopher Collins of Jackson, MS and Merritt Collins Shaw of Mobile, AL; his grandchildren, Lilli Collins, Sean Collins, Michael Collins and Brennan Collins, all of Jackson, MS; his sisters, Margaret Blue, Amy Brown and Lea Anne Goble; and his pets, Dixie, Sophie and Pepper. In lieu of flowers the family prefers donations be made to Loaves and Fishes, 610 Water Street, Biloxi, MS 39530 or to the St. Vincent de Paul Society, 870 Howard Avenue, Biloxi, MS 39530. The family wishes to express a special thanks to the staff of MICU at Ocean Springs Hospital. A Memorial Mass will be held at Nativity BVM Cathedral on Wednesday, October 18, 2017 at 3:00 pm. Friends may visit from 1:00 pm until mass time. The Howard Avenue Chapel of Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
