Donovan Scott Brown, age 46, lost his 16 year battle with a brain tumor on June 14, 2013 in Ocean Springs, MS. He was born on September 30, 1966 in Gulfport, MS to James Donovan (Don) and Judy McBride Brown. Scott graduated from Ocean Springs High School in 1984. After high school he enlisted in the Mississippi Army National Guard and attended flight school at Fort Rucker, AL where he was certified to fly helicopters, specifically the UH-1 “Huey”. Upon graduating from Fort Rucker, Scott was a member of the 185th Aviation Group in Meridian, MS where he flew the CH-54 “Sky Crane”. He graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1990 and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration. Scott was an owner of Southeast Aviation which operated out of the Bobby L. Chain Municipal Airport in Hattiesburg, MS. In 1994, he became certified to fly the C-23 “Sherpa” with the 1108th AVCRAD in Gulfport, MS. Scott was honorably discharged from the Mississippi Army National Guard in 1998. In 2000, Scott earned his Master’s Degree in Secondary Education from William Carey College and became certified to teach Social Studies at Vancleave High School where he eventually retired in 2010. Scott married Joy Senseney in 1993 in Biloxi, MS. They were happily married for 20 years. Scott was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Ocean Springs, MS and the McLeod Masonic Lodge and was a Scottish Rite Mason. He enjoyed visiting Horn Island with “the Horn Island Crew” and drinking coffee with his buddies at Coffee Fusion. Scott was preceded in death by his grandparents, Vema McKenzie McBride and Herbert McBride of Ellisville, MS and Earlene Hodges Brown and William Lee Brown of Collinsville, MS. Scott is survived by his loving wife, Joy Senseney Brown; daughter Katelyn McKenzie Brown; son, Donovan Joseph Brown; daughter, Sarah Frances Brown; father, James Donovan (Don) Brown; and his mother, Judy McBride Brown, all of Ocean Springs; his brother, Todd Brown of Gautier; as well as his niece, Marina Brown; his nephew, Crusoe Brown; and his mother-in-law, Patsy A. Senseney of Biloxi, MS. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial donations be made to St. Paul United Methodist Church in Ocean Springs or to the American Cancer Society, 417 Security Square, Gulfport, MS 39507. A Memorial Service will be held at the Downtown Campus of St. Paul United Methodist Church, 800 Porter Avenue, Ocean Springs, at 12 noon on Wednesday, June 19, 2013. The family will be greeting friends and relatives from 9:00 a.m. until service time. The Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
