Doris Akins

Doris “Dotsy” Josephine Schneider Akins, age 91, of Biloxi, MS joined our Heavenly Father on Tuesday, October 11, 2016. Dotsy was born on March 22, 1925 to Italia Montoli Schneider and Chester John Schneider. She retired from South Central Bell. She loved life and would light up a room with her energy, presence and beautiful smile. One of her great joys in life was sharing a joke and a belly laugh with everyone she met. She was very talented and enjoyed ceramics, painting and all crafts. She loved her family and was kind and generous to all. Dotsy was a devoted member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Throughout her life she had been a member of the Legion of Mary, Garden Clubs and Telephone Company Pioneers. She is preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, the love of her life and father of her children, Guilford L. Akins, Jr; her second husband, a kind and wonderful companion, Anthony “Tony” Pickich; siblings, Shirley, Violet, Chester "Boy”, Leonard and Donald; and grandbaby Akins. Dotsy is survived by her three children, Guiford L. Akins, III (Dianna), Valerie A. Johnson (Ronnie) and Mark L. Akins (Cornelia); five grandchildren, Deana Slaby (Mark), Ronnie Johnson, Jr. (Angela), Angel Akins Orr, Tiffany Moore (Chris) and Mark Akins; 13 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; and 2 sisters, Helene Cuevas and Carolyn Kennedy. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Thursday, October 13, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. Friends may visit from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens. The Howard Avenue Chapel of Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
