Dudley Buchel Milton

Dudley Buchel Milton, age 83, of Ocean Springs, died Saturday, January 18, 2014, at his home in Ocean Springs, Mississippi. He was born September 25, 1930, in Jackson, MS, and lived and farmed in the Mississippi Delta for many years before moving with his young family to the Mississippi Gulf Coast, where he was a longtime resident. After teaching in Mississippi schools for more than thirty years, he retired in 1988 from the Jackson County School system, where he taught students in Vancleave Elementary, Junior High, and High School. He was a volunteer for Jackson County Disaster Services as ambulance driver, attendant, emergency medical technician, and crew chief for Rescue II emergency unit serving the Vancleave community. In 1986 he was appointed to the Harrison-Jackson County Emergency Medical Services District Board. Mr. Milton was preceded in death by his father, Buchel Milton, his mother, Verna Munson, and his stepfather, Otho Munson. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Wilma Smithhart Milton and a large and loving family: Daughters, Kathryn McLain of St. Martin, Anne Stascavage (Mark Stascavage) of Hazlehurst, Tracy Walters of Ocean Springs, Leslie Schaffer (Charles Schaffer) of St. Martin, and Bronwyn Holliday (Tori Gallagher) of Durham, NC; Grandchildren, Sam Howard, Christy LaViolette, Jessica Young, David Milton, Katherine Walters, Alex Walters, Eleanor Stascavage, Karen Schaffer, George Holliday, Bennett Holliday, and Julia Schaffer; and great-granddaughter Harper Young. The family will always be grateful to Clare Olsen of Home Instead, who quickly became a member of our family and a pillar of support. Funeral services will be held at 5:00 p.m. Saturday January 25, 2014, at Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home, 911 Porter Avenue in Ocean Springs, where friends may visit two hours before service.
