Mrs. Edith Kennedy Dellenger, age 88, passed away Thursday, November 22, 2012 in Biloxi.
Mrs. Dellenger was born March 18, 1924 to the late Louis and Loretta Harris Kennedy. She was a lifetime resident of Biloxi and a member of the Biloxi First United Methodist Church. She married her high school sweetheart, Philip Dellenger, in 1944. Mrs. Dellenger owned Edith Dellenger's School of Dancing where she taught dancing from 1948-1962 and instilled the love of dancing in her many students. She also managed the office of the family business, Philip Dellenger Sheet Metal, until retirement. During their 65 years of marriage, she and Philip traveled to many places in the US and abroad. She was an original member of the Bonne Vivantes carnival organization and a longtime member of the Young Matrons social club of which she served as queen of in 1975. Mrs. Dellenger was also a lifetime member of the Biloxi Elks Ladies Auxiliary.
Mrs. Dellenger was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Loretta Kennedy; her husband, Philip Dellenger; her sisters, Amy Barich and Lucille Gilbert; and her brothers, Uriel Ray Kennedy, Sr. and Doyle Kennedy.
She is survived by five children, Gwen Vanderfin, Amy Sramek and her husband, Marc, Philip Dellenger, Jr. and his wife Gwen, Keith Dellenger and Edie Dellenger; one brother, Charles Roy Kennedy, Sr., all of Biloxi; five grandchildren, Traci Vanderfin Kessler and her husband Michael of Manassas, Virginia, Jodi Sramek Williams and her husband Zack of Mobile, Alabama, Jamie Dellenger, Kristy Sramek Oehms and her husband Eric and Philip Dellenger, III; and five great-grandchildren, Sophia and Porter Oehms, Mason and Bryce Williams and Bailey Dellenger.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, November 28, 2012 at 11:30 a.m. at the Howard Avenue Chapel of Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home in Biloxi where friends may visit from 10:00 a.m. until service time. Interment will follow at Biloxi National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family prefers donations be made to Biloxi First United Methodist Church Building Fund, 14220 Shriners Blvd., Biloxi, MS 39532, or to your charity of choice.
