Edith Eleanor Braun (Ellie), age 94, of Gulfport MS, passed away on February 26, 2015. Ellie was born and raised in Pittsfield, IL. Where she worked on the family farm with her brothers and sisters. After graduating high school there, she attended Washington University, St. Louis, Missouri, where she received her nursing degree. Ellie was married to Harold Kurt Braun for 57 years before his passing. They moved with his U.S. Air Force assignments several times before settling in Biloxi then finally to Gulfport with their five sons. Ellie worked as a R.N. for the VA for her entire career. She enjoyed traveling, cooking for family and friends, gardening, watching sports, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Throughout her life she was a devoted Lutheran churchwoman, participating in the establishment and support of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Gulfport. Ellie’s flower arrangements, legendary baked goods, and soups were ever present for church services and fellowship activities. Ellie is predeceased by her parents; husband, Harold Braun; sisters, Elizabeth Fudge and Dorothy Lippincott, and brother, Kenneth Bergman. She is survived by her sons, Kurt Braun, Bobby Braun, Dennis Braun (Romy), Gerry Braun (Kathy), Ray Braun (Margaret); grandchildren, Byron Braun (Caroline), Sharon Braun, Kevin Braun (Lauren), Kenneth Braun, Adrian Braun, Ashley Carr (Greg), Darren Braun, Martha Anne Braun, Robert Braun (April); also many great-grandchildren and extended family and friends. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 3, 2015 at 9:00 a.m. at Biloxi National Cemetery, 400 Veterans Ave, Biloxi. James Garnett of Lutheran Church of The Good Shepherd will be officiating. Memorial donations may be given to the charity of their choice. The family of Edith Eleanor Braun wishes to thank PDN, Dynita White, Catherine Kirksey and especially Gloria Walker for the many dedicated years of help and care of Mrs. Braun. The funeral arrangements are being handled by Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home.
