Edith S. O’Brien, age 85,
passed peacefully on Thursday,
November 22, 2012 at
Driftwood Nursing Center
in Gulfport.
Edith was born December
8, 1926 to Walter Washington
Salassi and Ruby Lee Russell
Salassi. She grew up in
Vicksburg where she attended
Jett Elementary School and
graduated from Carr Central
High School. Edith met her
husband, Charles, after he
returned from World War
II and married in 1947 then
moved to Pascagoula in 1957
where they reared four children.
Edith was an active
member of Sacred Heart
Catholic Church in Pascagoula.
She worked for the
Pascagoula Police Department
and volunteered at Singing
River Hospital.
Mrs. O’Brien was preceded
in death by her parents, brothers;
George Arnold Salassi,
Edward Bernard Salassi, Otto
Russell Salassi. Survivors
include her sons; Charles
D. O’Brien, Jr. and his wife
Kathy, Paul O’Brien and his
friend Ernest Gurly, Joseph C.
O’Brien and his wife Chris, her
daughter; Mary Anne Dizaye
and her husband Rushwan;a
sister, Ruth Ellen S. Warndof;
brothers,Robert Hermen
Salassi, Richard Rodney
Salassi; and grandchildren;
Victor C. O’Brien, Maggie
O’Brien, Katherine Dizaye
and Alice Dizaye.
A funeral service will be
on Wednesday, November 28,
2012 at 12:15pm at Bradford
O’Keefe Funeral Home, 15th
St in Gulfport where friends
may visit from 10:00am until
service time. Edith will be
laid to rest with her husband,
Charles, at 1:30pm at Biloxi
National Cemetery.
