Mrs. Edna B. Whiting passed away peacefully in Ocean Springs, MS on Sunday June 2, 2013 with her daughters at her side.
Edna was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii. She spent many years sharing her love and knowledge of art with patients at Shriner’s Hospital and students at St. Patrick’s School in Honolulu. She co-managed Sylvia’s Art Gallery and Studio in Honolulu. Edna also studied drafting. She had a love for flowers and gardening with a special affection for tropical plants. Edna was an avid reader. She also enjoyed reading Daily Devotionals and poetry and loved cooking and baking, often donating her baked goods to charitable bake sales. Everyone who knew Edna loved her. Her ability to care about others and her deep faith in God were qualities that drew people to her.
Edna was preceded in death by the love of her life, Carl Whiting, who brought her to Mississippi in 1971 after he accepted a position at Keesler Air Force Base.
Survivors include her daughter Rita (Kenny) Simmons, her daughter/granddaughter Bridgette Whiting, granddaughter Melissa (Mikey) James and her two great grandsons Damon and Dylan James.
Services for Edna will be held for family and friends at Bradford O’Keefe Funeral home in Ocean Springs on Wednesday June 12, 2013 from 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM followed by a mass at 3:30 PM at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Biloxi, MS.
