Elsie Lucile Carter Davis

Elsie Lucile Carter Davis, 94, of Brookhaven, MS, formerly of Fontainebleau, MS, passed away at Haven Hall Healthcare Center in Brookhaven, on Monday, January 19, 2015. Mrs. Davis was born on July 2, 1920, in Village Mills, TX, to William Raymond Carter and Bertie Rae Wiggins Carter Releford. She retired from Civil Service after serving as a secretary for the U.S. Navy in Pascagoula, MS and Keesler Air Force Base, Biloxi, MS. She was a member of the Fontainebleau Homemaker's Club and served on the Jackson County Fair Board for 25 years. Known for her pies, cakes and homemade breads, there was always something sweet and a hot cup of coffee for family and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, Frank Roy Davis of Fontainebleau, MS; her parents; and her sisters: Allene Carter Sumrall, Gladys Carter Archer, Joyce Carter Barras, Sarah Benellen Carter Knight, Jimmy Rae Carter Landgrebe, and Bobbie Ruth Carter Zittle. Mrs. Davis is survived by her daughters, Rebecca Gwendolyn Davis Nations and husband Richard Wayne of Brookhaven, MS and Vivian Ellen Davis of Vancouver, WA; her brother-in-law, Charles “Duke” Davis and sister-in-law Beryl Davis; her sisters-in-law, Tillie Davis Roberts of Gautier, MS and Marilyn Parks Davis of Pascagoula, MS; two step-grandsons; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at the Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home on Thursday, January 22, 2015 from 12:30 pm until 1:30 pm with a 2:00 pm graveside service at Crestlawn Memorial Park.
