Emma Blakeney Blackwell, age 94, of Gulfport passed away peacefully with her family by her side on February 23, 2015 in Gulfport, MS.
Emma is preceded in death by her parents, Don and Cordia Blakeney, sisters Myrtle Blakeney, Hattie Atwood, Mae Jernignan, Wilma Blakeney and her husband, Robert E. Blackwell.
She is survived by two sisters, Ondean Murray and Daisy Sartor, two sons Don (Lisa) Blackwell and Charlie (Elease) Blackwell, two daughters Elsa (Bob) Booher, Beverly (Buddy) Brown, eleven grandchildren, Renee (Randall) Fox, Kimberly (Doug) Albritton, Charlie Blackwell, Jr., Donna (Tom) Rich, Jeff (Heather) Blackwell, Jerry Blackwell, Austin Blackwell, Raven Blackwell, Raylen Blackwell, Hunter Blackwell, Patty (Ron) Reid, five great-grandchildren Morgan Blackwell, Randall Fox, Jr., Tucker Albritton, Will Rich and Claire Rich.
Emma was a loving, kind person who was willing to help anyone in any way that she could. She was very dedicated to her family. She was an avid gardener, loved to cook and always enjoyed her weekly trips to the hair and nail salon with her granddaughters. She was a charter member and oldest living member of Gulf Gardens Baptist Church.
A very special thank you to Dr. Michael Payment, who held a very special place in her heart, for the care and compassion he provided to her.
A big thank you to the staff at Memorial Hospital on 4A and 4C, and St. Joseph Hospice for the care and support that they provided.
The funeral service is Friday, February 27, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Gulf Gardens Baptist Church in Gulfport where friends may visit beginning at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Evergreen Gardens, Gulfport.
