Commander Eric M. Jewess, USCG Ret., age 57, of Ocean Springs, MS, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, March 6, 2015 at his home in Ocean Springs.
Eric was a native of Bessemer, MI, located in the Upper Peninsula, a place he loved and called home. Eric attended the U.S. Coast Guard Academy from 1975 to 1979, earning a Bachelor of Science in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering. Eric then attended the University of Michigan from 1983 to 1985, earning a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering. He served a distinguished career as a Naval Engineer in the U.S. Coast Guard retiring as a Commander. From 2003 to the present, he worked as a logistics manager for Huntington Ingalls Industries, Inc., Gulf Coast.
Survivors include his daughter, Maddie Jewess; his sons, Zachary (Kelly) Jewess and Alex Jewess; his mother, Yoko Jewess; his grandchildren, Sabra Grace Jewess and Parker Jewess; and his brothers, Frank (Claire) Jewess and Jay (Luci) Jewess.
Eric was preceded in death by his father, Master Sgt. Jack "Sarge" Jewess.
Eric was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
Funeral services will take place on Saturday, March 14, 2015, at 1:00 pm at the Greenhill Funeral Home in Florence, AL. A separate memorial service will be held in Bessemer, MI when he is returned “home” at a later date.
The Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
