Fabin "Whitehorse" Ladnier

Fabin “Whitehorse” Ladnier, 87, was born in Biloxi to the late William J. and Antonia Bodin Ladnier. His great heart stopped beating on February 12, 2014. He died peacefully at home, with all of his loving family around him, after a long illness. Fabin was a graduate of Notre Dame High School and served proudly in the U.S. Marine Corp in WWII. Peace was declared as he was enroute to the Invasion of Japan and he served in the occupying forces until his discharge. Upon his return to Biloxi, he met and married Doris Dick Ladnier. Recently they celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary. Fabin retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 34 years and devoted the rest of his life to caring for the poor. He was one of the founders of the Lord is My Help Food Kitchen in Ocean Springs and served there until his final illness. Under the sponsorship of the O’Keefe Foundation, Fabin started St. Joseph’s Kitchen to deliver meals to the needy in the area and served as coordinator for ten years. He also was instrumental, along with Msg. Hannon, Dr. Peter Pavlov and Theresa Pavlov, in forming the St. Vincent de Paul Pharmacy in Biloxi in providing free prescription drugs to those who cannot afford them. Blue Cross Blue Shield of MS presented Fabin with their 2005 Ageless Hero Award and the City of Biloxi declared February 10, 2009 as Fabin Ladnier Day in honor of his achievements. Fabin was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Le Roy Ladnier; and his infant grandson, Louis King, III. Fabin considered his greatest achievement to be his family of six daughters and one son. His survivors are, Mary Ann Louviere (Patrick), Susan Wilson (Jim), Dean Ladnier, Cathy Palmer (Ben), Janet McGrath (Greg), Joan Ladnier, Steve Ladnier (Claire); his grandchildren, Lara Jenkins (Bodie), Chris Louviere (Sarah), Mia Burke (Shawn), Ian Carmack (Brooke), Micah Carmack (fiancee, Chelsea), Angie Grosso (Shane), Tanya Gipson (Chris) and Lauren and Jordan Ladnier; his great-grandchildren, Kyle Cooper, Remy Jenkins, Alder Louviere, Ayla Burke (fiancé, Tommy), Liam Burke, Zoey Carmack, Miranda Dannemueller and Conner and Aiden Gipson. The family is very grateful to the staff of Southern Care Hospice and special thanks to Liz, Debbie and Sue for their devoted care and also, to Fr. White for his faithful visits. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to St. Vincent de Paul Community Pharmacy, P.O. Box 1228, Biloxi, MS 39533 or to the Lord is My Help Food Kitchen, 1205 Desoto St. Ocean Springs, MS 39564.
