Frances Antoinette Misko Lamas

Frances Antoinette Misko Lamas, surrounded by her family, was called home to be with our Lord on Monday, September 12, 2016 just shy of her 88th birthday following a brief illness. Frances was the youngest daughter of 11 children born to immigrant parents from Bobovisca, Brac (Croatia). She graduated from Biloxi High School in 1947 where she was voted Most Athletic and was a star basketball player. In 1949, she married the love of her life, Joseph, and they shared an unwavering devotion to each other for 67 years. Frances was a dedicated mother to their 3 children. In 1972, when their youngest was in high school, Frances decided to go to work part time at Gayfers (now Dillard's) and retired having spent over 40 years as a dedicated employee. Everyone knew "Mrs. Lamas from the drapery department". Frances was a devout Catholic and a member of Our Lady of Fatima for over 60 years. She loved God and held a special reverence for Our Blessed Mother and many saints. She was a charter member of the L'Avenir Club and maintained close friendships with those girlfriends. Being true to her heritage, she was also a member of the Slavonian Ladies Auxillary. Gracious, exuberant, compassionate and beautiful are just a few words that summarized Frances who lived a long, healthy and fulfilled life. She will be deeply missed. She is preceded in death by her father, George Misko; her mother, Mandelina Pitalo Misko; six brothers, John Misko, Pete Misko, Albert Misko, Anthony "Tony" Misko, Stephen Misko and Georgio Misko; and five sisters, Rita Jenkins, Lucretia Doljanin, Elizabeth Gutierrez and Antonio Juen. She is survived by her husband, Joseph Lamas; two sons, Gary (Teena) Lamas and Glen Lamas; one daughter, Diane (Gary) Lawson; six grandchildren, Brandye (Chris) Staton, Chad (Ashleigh) Lamas, Lyndsey (Dalton) Miller, Shay Lawson, Nicole (Bobby) Gillon and Scotty Schonewitz; four great grandchildren, Parker, Quinn, Benjamin and Connor who collectively brought pure joy to her face in her later years. A Catholic Mass will be celebrated on Friday, September 16, 2016 at 11am at Our Lady of Fatima. Visitation will begin one hour prior to Mass. Interment will follow at Biloxi National Cemetery. The Howard Avenue Chapel of Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
