Genevieve “Cookie” Hancock Carter, 60, died Sunday, August 21, 2016.
Born in Biloxi, MS on September 29, 1955 to John Canfield Hancock and Willie Mae Keebler Hancock, she was a lifelong resident of the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
Cookie was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Jackie Mcilwain; granny, Myriam Janette Keebler; and nephew, Kevin Mcilwain.
She is survived by her children, Miranda Grace (Jason) Smith of Brookwood, AL, Robert Shawn (Samantha) Carter of Brookwood, AL, John Henry Lynn (Meredith) Carter of West Blocton, AL, Patrick Clarence (Peg) Carter of Brookwood, AL, and Jordan Wayne Carter of Vancleave, MS; grandchildren, Hailey Smith, Robert Christian Carter, Wyatt Smith, Jacey Smith, and Natalie Carter; siblings, John (Pat) Hancock, Henry (Peggy) Hancock, Jessie Frank Hancock, Patricia (Malone) Cowart; and her fur babies, Precious, Bama and Sheba.
The family wishes to extend their thanks to the Vancleave community; the Brookwood, Alabama, community; Magnolia Baptist Church; The Reorganized Church of the Latter Day Saints; and East Brookwood Baptist Church and its members.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 27, 2016 at Magnolia Baptist Church, 2400 Magnolia Baptist Church Rd., Vancleave, MS 39565. A graveside service will follow at The Reorganized Church of the Latter Day Saints on Mt. Pleasant Road. The Vancleave Chapel of Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
