George Russell "Gus" Young

George Russell “Gus” Young, age 66, of Mobile, AL died Sunday, June 15, 2014 in Mobile. He was born in Washington D.C., was a resident of Mobile for the past nine years and was a former resident of New Orleans, LA for fifteen years. He was employed by the Salvation Army in New Orleans and Mobile. He served in both the U.S. Army and the U.S. Air Force. Mr. Young was involved as an advocate with Adult Children of Alcoholics. Along with his community involvement, he enjoyed building model cars and he loved motorcycles. He was an accomplished musician playing both the saxophone and clarinet in area bands and orchestras. In his later years he became interested in history, especially American and Presidential history. He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard D. Young and Mollie Vick Brown Young; and a brother, Richard D. Young. He is survived by a sister, Julia Young Hayes (John) of The Villages, Florida; and eight cousins from various parts of the country. Visitation will be held Friday, June 20, 2014 from 11:00 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. at Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home, O’Neal Road, Gulfport with the graveside service following at 1:30 p.m. at Biloxi National Cemetery, Biloxi.
