Gerald Francis Lamey, age 80, passed away Monday, November 26th in Biloxi, MS. He was a true Southern gentleman who was very much loved by his family and friends. Jerry always had a smile and handshake for everyone he met whether he knew them or not. He attended Biloxi Public Schools and then changed to Notre Dame High School where he graduated in 1950. He loved his fighting Irish Notre Dame football team. Jerry grew up in a time where men were honest & hardworking and had to take jobs as a youngster to help support the family. His first job at age 7 was selling newspapers at Keesler Air Force Base during World War II. He then joined the Navy in 1951 and was assigned to an LST ship that went to Korea and Sasebo, Japan during the Korean War. After leaving the Navy, he joined the FBI in Washington, D.C. where he continued his studies in business management. Jerry then returned to Biloxi in 1958 and took a job with the United Gas Co. which eventually became Entex Co. where he retired from in 1991 after 33 years of service. Jerry served on the Biloxi Planning Commission from Oct. 1985 until Aug. 2008 which he truly loved. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1244 since 1950 and was a past Grand Knight, 4th Degree member and in the order of Alhambra. He loved a good game of Bourre with his fellow brothers at the K.C. Hall. He was a charter member of the Biloxi Lions Club, a member of the Elks’ Club, and the Morning Coffee Call. Jerry was also a member of the American Legion Post 33 and VFW Post 2434 and a member of the Biloxi Back Bay Volunteer Fire Company. Some of the most interesting people Jerry met were J. Edgar Hoover, Dwight D. Eisenhower, Richard Nixon and George Bush. He was preceded in death by his parents, Florian and Rachel Eldora (Ladnier) Lamey, sisters Anna Mae Taylor and Mary Theresa Taylor and nephew Gerard (Rod) Taylor. He is survived by a brother, Kenneth F. Lamey, a sister Norma Jean Lamey, beloved nephews Terry (Susan) Taylor, Florian Lamey, Mark Lamey, John Taylor, Timothy (Tina) Lamey, Richard (Theresa) Taylor and nieces Lowana (Dave) Ratisher, Theresa Lamey and Lisa (Brian) Balius as well as numerous great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. A visitation will be from 9:00 am to 11:00 am on Friday, November 30th, 2012 at Blessed Seelos Catholic Church, 360 Lameuse St, Biloxi with a mass of Christian Burial to begin at 11:00 am. Rev. Steven Wilson and Rev. Chuong Cao will officiate. Interment will be at the Biloxi City Cemetery. Pall Bearers will be: Terry Taylor, Mark Lamey, Timothy Lamey, Richard Taylor, Brian Balius, David Ratisher, Michael Balius and Greg Eleuterius, Jr. Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home, Howard Avenue is in charge of arrangements.
