Gertrude Elizabeth Martino, 92, of Vancleave, MS died Saturday, June 23, 2012 in Ocean Springs.
Gertrude was born in Gloucester, New Jersey and was of the Baptist faith. She lived in Jackson County for the past 45 years. While her husband was in the Service during World War II, Gertrude worked as a restaurant manager, but after the war she became a first class homemaker. During her years in Pascagoula and Gautier, she developed a talent for painting and sewing. Much of her work is displayed in her home and in the homes of her children. She was a member of the Easter Star of Pascagoula, the 20th Century Club of Pascagoula, several quilting clubs and the Homemakers Club.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Elizabeth Addis.
Survivors include her husband, Ben, to whom she was married for 72 years; her sons, Kenneth (Deanna) of Sandy Hook, MS and David (Jarme) of Covington, LA; her six grandchildren, Trey and Jennifer of New Orleans, LA, Ben and Kevin of Covington, LA and Paul and Lara of Sandy Hook and Ellisburg, MS; and two great-grandchildren, Cole Merrill Thrash and Emma Grace Cruz.
Since no flowers are permitted in national cemeteries, in lieu of flowers, contributions to the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital, 3100 Samford Ave., Shreveport, LA 71103, would be highly welcome.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 27, 2012 from 10:00am until 12:00pm at the Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home with a 12:00pm procession from Bradford-O’Keefe to the Biloxi National Cemetery for a 12:30 graveside service.
