Gertrude Naomi Jalanivich Medlock, 92, of Ocean Springs went home to be with her Heavenly Father on Friday, February 10, 2017.
Gertrude was born in Biloxi, Mississippi, on July 21, 1924, daughter of John Matthew Jalanivich and Gertrude Eve Trosclair Jalanivich. She was a longtime resident of Ocean Springs serving at Faith Christian Center as Pastor's wife, Sunday School Superintendent, teacher and organist. She worked at SUPSHIP Pascagoula and later at Stennis. "Mamaw", as she was known by most, loved and cherished by all and will be remembered as kind, compassionate and generous to anyone. Mamaw spent countless hours playing bridge, any other game and her family genealogy. She taught four generations something wonderful about herself and themselves, and 100 different ways to sing "A Bushel and a Peck". Mamaw had no greater joy than to hear that her children walked in truth.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 62 years, Rev. A. Alfred Medlock, siblings, John Matthew Jr., David, Dewey, Wilbur, Aline McGraw, Dorothy Sells, Alma Baker; and infant daughter, Brenda Gail Medlock.
Survivors include three children, Rev. Allen (Nelda) Medlock Jr., Jeanette Lindsey, and Rebecca "Becky" (John) Hafford; a special son-in-law, Harvey Speight; eight grandchildren, Richard (Madonna) Speight, Cherie Speight, Chad (Elizabeth) Speight, Jason (Stefanie) Polk, Jennifer (Tracey) Owens, Dallas (Amanda) Medlock, Amber (Gary) Smith, and Shelly (Paul) Brann; 17 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild plus three on the way; numerous nieces and nephews and her most loyal caregivers and friends Terry Waters, Mike and Sharon.
Visitation will be 5 pm to 7 pm with a Celebration of Life Service at 7 pm, all on Thursday, February 16, at Faith Christian Center, Ocean Springs. Burial will be at 10:00 am Friday, February 17, at Southern Memorial Park.
The Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
