Giovannina Garofalo, 87, of Biloxi, MS passed away Thursday, September 21, 2017 in Biloxi.
Mrs. Garofalo, also known as GG or Nonna, was born March 26, 1930 in Casanova di Carinola, Italy to Vincenzo De Biasio and Anna Maria DiCresce. She came to the United States at the age of 42 with her husband and family. Mrs. Garofalo worked all of her life and retired from Brooks Brothers as a seamstress. She loved flowers, animals and especially her 6 birds that she named and spoke to in Italian. Mrs. Garofalo loved to share her plants and her cooking and no one left her home empty handed. She helped anyone in need, putting everyone’s needs before her own.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Giuseppe Garofalo.
Mrs. Garofalo’s survivors include her three daughters, Alessandra Garofalo, Vincenza LaTempa and her husband, Peter and Maria Murphy and her husband, Larry; her grandchildren, Caterina, Giuseppe, Josephine, Angelo, Christina, Angelo Pietro, John and Jessica; her great-grandchildren, Arianna, Julia, Luciana, Salvatore, Gabriele, Brianna and Lily; and her spoiled cat, Stella.
In lieu of flowers the family prefers donations be made to the Humane Society of South Mississippi, 2615 25th Avenue, Gulfport, MS 39501.
In Mississippi, a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church on Saturday, September 23, 2017 at 11:00 am. Friends may visit from 10:00 am until mass time.
In New York, visitation will be held at D’Arienzo Funeral Home in Brooklyn, NY on Monday, September 25, 2017 from 7:00 pm until 9:00 pm and on Tuesday, September 26, 2017 from 9:00 am until 10:00 am. A Committal Service will follow at 11:00 am at St. Michaels Cemetery in East Elmhurst, NY.
