Glenn "Skinny" E. Brune, Sr.

Glenn E. “Skinny” Brune, Sr., 77, passed away on Thursday, January 29, 2015 in Ocean Springs. Glenn was born January 6, 1938 in New Orleans, LA and moved with his family to the Mississippi Gulf Coast a few years later. He was a resident of Ocean Springs for over 70 years and all of that time Glenn quietly and capably served his family, his community and his country exceedingly well. Glenn was a manager at Ingalls Shipbuilding and an officer in the Mississippi National Guard, but he was proud to be known by family and friends as “Skinny” Brune because for many, that was his name. He was unassuming and unpretentious; he was a good man who was respected by everyone who knew him. Glenn and his wife Myra raised eight children. He adored them and they adored him for so many good reasons. His modest home in Ocean Springs was a meeting place for his children, grandchildren and friends. Glenn often prepared and served gourmet meals for family and friends. He grew vegetables in his yard and brought home speckled trout from the Gulf and prepared wonderful meals for large and small gatherings. Glenn was a celebrity chef. Glenn graduated from St. Alphonsus School, Ocean Springs High School and the University of Southern Mississippi. He worked at Ingalls Shipbuilding for 42 years and when he retired in 2000, he was an Electrical Superintendent. He served 32 years in the Army National Guard, part of that time in Germany. Glenn was a Lieutenant Colonel when he retired. He is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Henrietta Brune; and his brother, Joseph “JE” Brune. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Myra Cospelich Brune; his brother, Henry Brune; his daughters, Sharon (Roland) Weeks, Rhonda (Truman) Schultz, Catherin (Wallace) Boudreaux and Jennifer (Robbie) Schmidt; his sons, Tod (Mattie) Brune, Glenn (Karla) Brune, Jr., James Brune and Reese (Valerie) Brune; his grandchildren, Amber (Darrell) Favre, Truman (Sheena) Schultz, III, Shelby Brune, Ashley and Nick Brune, Miia Newman, Molly Schmidt, Bridgette and Reese Brune, Cooper and Brady Brune and Wallace Boudreaux, III; and by his great-grandchildren, Leah and Ethan Schultz and Panya and Nate Brune. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church on Monday, February 2, 2015 at 11:00 am. Friends may visit from 9:30 am until mass time. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery. The Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
