Hildegarde McPherson Harrington

Hildegarde McPherson Harrington, 93, of Jackson, Mississippi died Thursday, February 28, 2013. Mrs. Harrington was born to Dr. Wilbur and Ruth McPherson. She was a graduate of Wittenburg University in Ohio and was a teacher of Spanish. Mr. and Mrs. Harrington resided in New York City for quite some time. While there, Hildegarde studied French cooking under Dione Lucas and Jacque Pepin. She went on to teach cooking in various cities and states. Mrs. Harrington was a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church, Jackson, Mississippi where she was a Bible leader for many years. She was a member of P.E.O. Sisterhood and philanthropic organizations. Mrs. Harrington was preceded in death by her husband of fifty years, Fuller Augustus “Gus” Harrington, an investment banker in Jackson, MS; her parents, Dr. Wilbur and Ruth McPherson; and one brother, Dr. Ziegler McPherson. She is survived by her daughter, Shelley Harrington Cummings and son-in-law, James W. Cummings of Gulfport; two granddaughters, Mary James Cummings of Biloxi, Katherine “Katie Aschenbach Doucet, (Tommy); two great-grandchildren, Lainey Hayes Aschenbach and Chloe Elizabeth Aschenbach, all of Gulfport; and many loving nieces, nephews and friends. Visitation will be Monday, March 4, 2013 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home, 15th Street, Gulfport. Private services will be held at a later date.
