Izetta Ann Scarborough

On May 14, 2015, Izetta Ann Scarborough lovingly greeted her Savior whom she has longed to see. Her Heavenly Father has now welcomed her home with a mind now fully aware of His love, and a body made whole in the joy of His presence. Ann was born Oct. 1, 1939 to Sidney J. and Hattie K. Broadus in Centralia, IL. Her precious spirit impacted everyone and she always demonstrated a servant’s heart not only with her immediate family, but also with her church and campground families. Ann’s role as a Godly Mother, a Grandmother, Aunt, and caregiver was a living example of the Proverbs 31 woman. “An excellent wife who can find? She is far more precious than jewels” – Proverbs 31:10. Mike Scarborough married that excellent wife on Aug. 31, 1958 and found her more precious each year for 56 years. Ann faithfully served her home as the chief cook, seamstress, nurse, teacher, comforter, disciplinarian, minister, counselor, and master gardener. Who does not know about Ann Scarborough’s fried chicken, or has stepped foot on the Palmer Creek Campground and not immediately craved a bowl of that homemade ice cream, or has not marveled at the countless “better-than-tailor-made” creations for all her children? As John 21:25 states “…were every one of them to be written, I suppose the world itself could not contain the books that would be written”, so it might be with all of Ann’s contributions to so many lives. The foundation of the family, however, fully rested in her faith and trust in Jesus Christ for her entire life. Ann is preceded in death by her parents Sidney J. and Hattie K. Broadus and one child Michael Terrance. She is survived by her faithful and loving husband of 56 years, Michael (Mike), and her loving children: Sidney Scarborough (Marsha), Karen Ward (Jim), Bradley Scarborough, and Brian Scarborough (Shelley). She also leaves her loving spirit within the lives of 5 grandchildren – Ashley Ward, Hannah and Jacob Scarborough, Arley and Orrin Scarborough; brother Billy Ray Broadus; sisters Betty Lee Daughdrill and Margaret Elaine Smith. The family wants to express profound appreciation and admiration for her primary caregivers these past two years, Kim Nguyen at the Precious Care Center, and her Hospice nurses Tracy Crevier, Lamika Harrison, and Sara Jackson. We thank each of you for your blessed friendship and compassionate kinship throughout Ann’s life and all of our lives as well. The family will receive friends and family members at Cedar Lake United Methodist on Monday, May 18, 2015 with visitation beginning at 9:30 a.m., followed immediately by a celebration service at 11:00 a.m. The graveside service will follow at White Plains UMC Cemetery. The Howard Avenue Chapel of Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Palmer Creek Methodist Campground, 3 Greenbrier Drive, Gulfport, MS 39507, or The Alzheimer’s Association at www.alz.org
