James R. Bussolati, age 96, passed away Thursday, February 1, 2018 in Gulfport, MS.
Mr. Bussolati was born in Gulfport and was a lifelong resident. He graduated from St. Francis de Sales (St. John) Catholic School in 1939. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1940 and served for six years. He was a crew member aboard the U.S.S. Raleigh stationed in Pearl Harbor during the Japanese attack on December 7, 1941. Following his discharge, he worked as a pressman for the Daily Herald for many years and retired as pressroom foreman. An avid fisherman, he enjoyed living on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. He was proud to have been a part of the Veterans' Honor Flight to Washington, D.C.
James is preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Ami Beebe Bussolati; his daughter, Debra Ann Helveston; his parents, Henry and Mary Bussolati; and his brothers, Jack, Louis, and Emile Bussolati.
Survivors include his son, Paul James Bussolati; his grandson, Stanley James Helveston; and special companion, Ellen Palmer.
Visitation will be held Thursday, February 8, 2018 from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., with a 2:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial, all at the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 2414 17th Street Gulfport, MS 39501. Interment will follow at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens with military honors.
In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer donations be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
