Mrs. Jayne Lea Nixon Spiers, age 82, of Prescott, AZ, passed away on Wednesday, July 23, 2014, of natural causes. She was living in Arizona close to her oldest daughter, Janice Spiers Goff, at the time of her death.
Jayne was a longtime resident of Ocean Springs and a seamstress at the ER Moore Company in the 1950's. She was a member, pianist and organist at Emmanuel Baptist Church and later became a member and organist at the First Baptist Church. Her daddy, Frank Nixon, and his brother, Bert El Spiers, built the families shrimp boat in her mom's yard at their home on Brumbaugh Road in Ocean Springs. It was so huge sitting there out of the water that the neighbors joked with mom, dad and Uncle Bert that "they must know something everyone else did not know." It looked like they were building an ark. All the shrimpers docked their boats at the Ocean Springs Harbor and our boat name was Captain Ray.
Jayne was preceded in death by her mom, Jessie Butler Nixon, father, Frank Nixon, sisters, Willie and Laurie Nixon and Louise Holliman and a brother, James Nixon.
Survivors include her daughters, Janice Goff and family of Sedona, AZ and Joann Harold and family of Brewton, AL, sister, Mae Frances Phillips, living in PA with her children and grandchildren, grandsons, Daniel Harold and Matt and Jered Goff and great-grandsons, Izaiah Goff and Stephen Dufresne.
Visitation will be on Thursday, July 31, from 6pm until 8pm, at the Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford O'Keefe Funeral Home. On Friday, August 1, there will be a 10am graveside service in Crestlawn Memorial Park.
